The Elisabeth Church in Marburg was built between 1235 and 1283 over the grave of Saint Elisabeth and became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the western world.<\/p>\n

In terms of art history, it ranks as the earliest purely Gothic church east of the river Rhine. The builders of the church created the type of Gothic hall church, which became a model for the further development of the Gothic style in Germany.<\/p>\n
